The Void is many things, but it is never nothing, raising an interesting philosophical point about the nature of nothing and the ontological paradox of nothing,...

The Interview

Matt: First of all, tell us a little about yourself, (How old are you, where you live etc.)

Theo: Well I am known as Theo in real life. Im 24 and live in the north of Holland. I work as junior designer at one of hollands best webdesign agencies imo

Matt: How did you first get into digital art?

Theo: It started of with electronic music. I made house music with a bunch of guys back in the day :P we needed to promote ourselves. So I created flyers for our 'raves' t-shirts, logos, websites, etc.. the success of it made me give up my music carreer and take on jobs in mostly webdesign which I got as backspin from that. Next to that I decided to take on a study in Multimedia design. This gave me the time to really develop in the web sector. And also work on my skills in illustration and 3D. After five years of study I now finally graduated and am working as an junior designer. I noticed something was missing so I decided to do pure graphics design in my spare time. I've been doing this since apr 06. Its a great way to work out my personal ideas and style quests

Matt: How do you feel about being featured artist for our latest exhibition, Formula?

Theo: I feel honored. So much good artists and pieces for this pack. I didnt expect it.

Matt: Who are your favourite artists?

Theo: I have so much artists that I really love. To name a few that I recently came across:
Niko Stumpo, Dzark, Thmd, Superfamous, Dopamin, Universal Everything

Matt: Which programs do you use (and why)?

Theo: Photoshop is the basis of my work. In Photoshop I combine all other stuff to my endresult. I try to be as diverse as possible for my input material. Just to keep things interesting. I use just about everything. Next to photoshop the software I mostly use is 3Dsmax, Illustrator, C4d. I also use a lot of photos and sometimes traditional media.

Matt: Where do you see yourself in a couple years?

Theo: I dont know. I see graphics design more as a hobby then a carreer at the moment. I have a good job so making graphics is really relaxing. Maybe I will be able to live on my hobby in a few years. that would be great.

Matt: What advice would you give to those who wish to start digital art?

Theo: explore as much as you can. you need to be passionate about it and keep it fun and last but not least.. seek as much feedback as you can get.

Matt: What inspires you to create the things you do?

Theo: I just need to create. I dont exactly know why. I just have this urge. the inspiration itself comes from everywhere. I do have a lot of affection for technology and nature.

Matt: How do you go about creating a piece?

Theo: I usualy start with some vague concept or idea I want to work out. I always try to find a balance between using a complete design process and letting the process have a life of its own. Everything happens in my mind. I get a visual image of the work and start to try realizing it. Mostly it comes out differently than I imaged. Which is often even better. I dont really sketch. I only do that when I need to model or illustrate something.

Matt: What interests do you have outside of graphic design?

Theo: Music, people, my job, sports and lots more which I never get around to..

Matt: Anything else you wish to add?

Theo: no I've said more than enough I think ok only that Evoke is an top notch community and I hope to create lots more nice works for it.
